What if some of our deepest connections are the ones we cannot see?
In this photograph, little mushrooms gather around a tree, tucked among roots and fallen leaves. It makes me wonder about the life unfolding beneath our feet.
Below the forest floor, fine fungal threads can connect the roots of different trees. These relationships, called mycorrhizal networks, are part of an intricate exchange between trees and fungi. Suzanne Simard’s research has helped bring this hidden world into view.
We are still learning how these connections work. But the thought of them touches something in my heart.
I think of the people whose care has become woven into my life. Someone who believed in me before I believed in myself. A friend who sensed when I needed a call. The wisdom of someone who came before me, still shaping how I move through the world.
Their love lives beneath so much of what others see.
Perhaps that is the invitation of the forest: to remember the relationships that nourish us, and to tend them. To care for the living world that holds us, too.
This week, reach out to someone who has helped you grow. Let them know their kindness is still taking root.
With love,
Clarissa 🤍
